Hello football coaches!

A little about me...

I was born in Houston and raised in Conroe, TX and graduated from Conroe High School in 1986. I grew up a coach’s son and spent as much time in the fieldhouse as I could. I knew I wanted to be a football coach at a very young age - I loved the lifestyle. I grew up playing football, basketball and baseball and my father was my head football coach in high school.

After graduation I went on to play college baseball at McLennan Community College in Waco before graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in Kinesiology and Math. Even though I played baseball in college, I always wanted to be a football coach. Living in the state of Texas, high school football was everything. My first coaching job was at Grand Saline High School in Grand Saline, TX and in my second year there I was appointed Defensive Coordinator. I moved around early in my career until I got to Langham Creek High School in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. I have been in the Houston area since 1997 working at many different schools. Overall, I have been a defensive coordinator for 16 years, coaching defensive backs the entire time. I have also been an offensive coordinator for three years.

In the late 1990’s I had my first speaking engagement where I spoke about secondary play and afterward I was asked to go over more with a group of coaches. I was immediately hooked on helping other coaches. Since then, I have spoken at many clinics and written several articles, as well as my first book on coaching defensive football, which will be published soon. In 2021, I started my own podcast, “Systemizing Your Defense”, where I go over defensive football ideas in great detail. All these experiences have led me to start my business “Systematic Football”. I have helped many coaches in the Houston Area with many philosophical ideas and many of them install the defense that I coordinated over my 16 years as a defensive coordinator.

I have now stepped away from coaching to pursue business opportunities and watch my son play high school football. I have two children - my daughter Taylor is a 2023 graduate of Texas Tech University and currently lives in Austin, TX. My son Tyler will be a 2027 graduate of Tomball Memorial High School where he is pursuing football and baseball. They are my “Why” and the reason I do what I do.

When I am not working, I enjoy playing golf, being on my boat on the water, and cooking for family and friends. I hope to have my own barbecue restaurant in the future and get back to competing in cook-offs. I consider myself a foodie and enjoy the atmosphere around a good meal. Most of my bucket list consists of visiting different college football stadiums, baseball stadiums and golf courses around the country.

I enjoy the game of football to this day and have a passion for helping others the same way other coaches have helped me over the past 30 years.
